Policy committee advances revisions; Title IX grievance procedure opened for board review

The district’s policy committee reported March and April reviews of multiple board policies and advanced several items for first reading at the April meeting.
Committee members reviewed policy 2:265 (advertising and distributing materials in schools) and recommended shifting some routine review authority from the board to the superintendent while keeping controversial advertising subject to board review. The committee also recommended reverting a Title IX complaint procedure to an earlier version (citing a court ruling) and opening the updated procedure for first reading; the board discussed coordinate names and amended the item to correct the placement of the Title IX coordinator and related personnel labels before approving the first reading.
Other policy updates reviewed by the committee included policy 6:H240 (field trips and tours), with added language clarifying that privately arranged trips are not financially district‑supported and that educational travel should receive pre‑approval; policy 5210 (resignations by professional staff) slated for first reading in April because it has not been updated since 2017; and policy 71190 (student behavior), where attorney review added language in accordance with a state court ruling to clarify prohibited student discipline practices.
District staff emphasized that procedures and communications to staff will follow policy approvals and that training is planned when policies are finalized. The Title IX grievance procedure first reading passed as amended and will be returned for a second reading and adoption at a subsequent meeting.
