District staff said ParentSquare consolidates phone, text and email notifications, adds classroom‑level messaging for teachers, and gives parents options about how they receive non‑emergency communications (digest, text, email or app). Staff said the district researched other districts’ experiences with ParentSquare, highlighted vendor training resources (on‑demand and live sessions), and plans to use an internal technology cohort to support teachers and families during rollout.
Administrators told the board the change will also reduce the number of notification systems the district operates; currently some schools supplement SchoolMessenger with other systems such as Constant Contact because SchoolMessenger lacks certain classroom functions. ParentSquare is already used by nearby districts and the vendor provides sample communications and onboarding materials for families.
The board approved the recommendation with no recorded objections. Staff said there is no need for parents to download an app to receive messages, though the app provides additional functionality. The district will coordinate teacher training and a phased implementation so classroom messaging can be adopted gradually.
