District 207 approves summer 2025 construction and facility upgrades totaling multi‑hundreds of thousands

Administration recommended—and the board approved—awards for the following projects: an administration center renovation and window replacement at Maine South to Reconstruction (low bid) for $490,000; Main East ABCD gym floor redesign and auditorium lobby carpet replacement to Reconstruction for $250,000 (including approximately $30,000 in contingencies and allowances); Main East track replacement with GeoGrid soil stabilization to Chuck McNeil for $1,010,270; a public address system for Frost Academy administration to Mesa Electronics for $40,421.71; and replacement of Main West stadium lighting with LED fixtures to Barton Electric for $344,900.
District staff said the administration center work will subdivide three existing offices into five and renovate restrooms to be gender‑neutral; the plans comply with school code and ADA requirements. The Main East track core samples showed a wet subgrade; the administration recommended awarding the alternate bid that includes a GeoGrid foundation stabilizer to address that condition. The Main West stadium lighting replacement was presented as necessary because the existing metal‑halide system and control panels are failing and replacement parts are no longer available; LED fixtures were recommended, which the administration said should be eligible for utility rebates.
Bids for phase 1 of a multiyear water‑main replacement were rejected because bidders would not guarantee pricing amid unstable steel markets; staff said the district will reduce the scope and rebid in time for the May board meeting. The board voted to reject those bids and to rebid at a reduced scope.
All construction contracts noted above will be placed on the April consent agenda for formal approval; board discussion during the Buildings and Grounds Committee update noted a combined approach to manage contingencies and preserve budget flexibility. Several awards were described as slightly over or under budget after alternates and allowances; staff said some overages would be offset by contingencies or vendor incentives where available.
The board’s vote to award the listed contracts carried during the meeting with no recorded no votes or abstentions.
