District expands School Links plans so freshmen, sophomores and juniors set yearly postsecondary goals

District administrators presented a progress update on curriculum, instruction and post‑secondary planning at the Jan. 16 Lincoln Way board meeting, describing a ramped‑up rollout of the School Links platform to help students create annual four‑year learning plans.
The presentation explained that current freshmen, sophomores and juniors will complete a Lincoln Way learning plan this year that asks students to set a yearly post‑secondary goal, identify a career cluster of interest, set a college or training target and use the platform’s course planner to map classes for each of four years. Administrators said the plan will only lock students into next year’s courses; longer‑term entries are nonbinding and intended to guide conversations between students, counselors and families.
“Each of our current freshmen, sophomore, and junior students will be completing this,” the curriculum presenter said. The presenter also noted that counselors use half‑day school improvement sessions and advisories to complete much of this work and that parents will receive emails and access to review and approve their students’ plans.
Staff demonstrated features the board packet described: career interest inventories, college and career readiness indicators, SAT results, alignment to diploma and degree tracks and NCAA eligibility checks. Counselors will highlight recommended Lincoln Way courses that match students’ selected career clusters so students can see which classes would help them explore an interest.
The presenter said the district’s use of School Links connects directly to strategic plan goals to increase real‑world skills and formalize post‑secondary planning. The board did not take action on the presentation; it was informational and intended to keep trustees apprised of implementation and rollout timing.
Administrators said they will continue to monitor completion rates and that the PPS (pupil personnel services) department coordinates course selection, college and career exploration and academic goal setting. The board did not request policy changes related to the platform at the Jan. 16 meeting.
