At its June 18 meeting in Ely, the Nevada Commission on Ethics voted to appoint Vice Chair Wallen, Commissioner Sam Reynolds and Commissioner Miller to a three‑member legislative subcommittee to evaluate legislative priorities and develop focused bill ideas for the next session. The proposal reflects the commission’s prior practice of using a small subcommittee to build focused bill drafts and conduct stakeholder engagement ahead of full‑commission consideration.
Executive Director Ross Armstrong said the subcommittee can consider whether to pursue proposals such as tightening cooling‑off or contracting rules and emphasized a focused approach rather than large, catch‑all bills. Commissioners discussed the burden of operating a subcommittee during the legislative session and the alternative of holding working sessions at full commission meetings. Commissioner Sam Reynolds volunteered to serve; a motion to appoint the three commissioners carried unanimously among those participating.
Armstrong and commissioners noted that subcommittees must comply with open‑meeting laws and that final bill ideas would be brought to the full commission for approval before any formal filing or a BDR (Bill Draft Request). The commission expects work on legislative priorities to proceed in the months ahead as the budget and BDR timelines approach next spring.
