Blair Board approves gym use for Blair Volleyball Club Bear Cubs sessions

The Blair Board of Education approved a request from Mary Policky, owner of the Blair Volleyball Club, to use school gym facilities on six Sundays from Oct. 19 through Nov. 23, 2025, from 1 to 3 p.m. for Bear Cubs training sessions for first- through sixth-grade players. The motion to approve the request passed after an emergency-addition vote to place the item on the agenda; the motion to grant facility use was moved by Melaini Sturm and seconded by Steve Callaghan. The board recorded four yes votes (Steve Callaghan, Nate Larsen, Melaini Sturm, Courtney Tabor) and three no votes (Denise Cada, Ginger Fredericksen, Bob Schoby); Board Member Kari Loseke was absent. The request stated that Policky would pay gym fees and provide club staff, and that Coach Lansman would promote and attend sessions to assist coaching. The request document noted the club previously ran Bear Cubs sessions two years earlier and reported attendance of over 80 youth athletes at that time. The administration recommended approving the request, and the board approved use of facilities for the specified dates and times. This action authorizes only facility use under the terms described at the meeting; no long-term facilities agreement, fee schedule changes or district-sponsored program status were recorded in the minutes.
