Steele County commissioners voted Sept. 9 to order a Caterpillar grader from Butler after staff presented a quote and an estimated earlier delivery timetable than previous purchases.
Why it matters: Road department staff told commissioners the quoted machine came in “a lot cheaper” than a prior model and that Butler could deliver the grader by early next year if the county commits now. The department described lead times shortening and said having the grader would help planned road projects.
Motion and vote: A commissioner moved to order the Caterpillar unit per the Butler quote and to schedule delivery after the first of the year. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Strand and passed by voice vote; the chair announced the motion carried.
Next steps: Staff will place the order with Butler and coordinate delivery logistics and budgeting.
