Members of the Findlay Sherrod Wildlife Explorers 4‑H club presented Aug. 5 seeking permission to place a Rainbow Bridge pet memorial on the west side of the courthouse lawn. The club, which said it has 35 members, described the bridge as roughly 10 feet by 4 feet, painted decking with stained and sealed structural elements, and a plaque or sign explaining the memorial’s purpose.
Club members told commissioners the 4‑H group will purchase materials, build the bridge, install it under the trees on the west lawn and care for it going forward. A club representative said individuals would be able to place a collar on the bridge to remember a pet and that the club would create signage explaining the project.
A commissioner moved to approve placing the Rainbow Bridge on the west courthouse lawn and a second was given; the commission voted aye and approved the request. Commissioners praised the youth presenters for their proposal.
Why it matters: the county granted permission for a youth-led, privately funded memorial on public property and recorded a maintenance plan by the sponsoring 4‑H club. Ending: County staff will coordinate installation details with the 4‑H club and the club will be responsible for long‑term maintenance as described at the meeting.
