Director Creel (planning) explained the requested rezoning would place a commercial storage operation in the middle of a single‑family neighborhood. Several nearby residents opposed the request at planning commission and at the council meeting, saying they had not anticipated a commercial storage facility and were concerned it would bring nonlocal traffic, increased wear on residential roads and a change in neighborhood character. The planning commission had voted unanimously to recommend denial.
Council members noted the weight of neighborhood opposition in their decision. "They were concerned that there'd be people coming from every direction to store their boats there," Director Creel said in a staff explanation of the planning record.
Outcome: The council denied the rezoning request unanimously. The denial leaves the parcel zoned RS‑10; the owner may pursue other legally available options, including applying for a different zoning classification through the planning process, but no action was taken to rezone the property at this meeting.
