County parks staff told the commission that the main piece of playground equipment for Lakeview Park has arrived at the Road Department and is being unloaded, while two smaller items remain delayed in shipping. Staff said the playground pieces are anchor-mounted, and that the Road Department will handle unloading and site coordination.
Commissioners discussed the need to prepare the site, potential groundwork coordination with the Road Department and Parks & Recreation, and the procurement approach for a covered structure. Because the project is under the county’s bidding threshold, commissioners agreed they can solicit quotes or invite contractors to provide designs and estimates rather than run a formal sealed-bid process. One commissioner said he would take the lead to start seeking bids or quotes this fall so the work does not slip through the cracks.
Staff and commissioners also discussed timing for contractor availability; several contractors said they were too busy now but could provide designs and quotes in the fall. Commissioners asked staff to coordinate with Todd at the Road Department and to meet with Commissioner White to lay out any foundation or site-preparation specs. Staff also confirmed that handoff of pretrial (program) responsibilities to Bailey is in process so that the site and related programs have a contact for coordination.
The commission directed staff to begin soliciting quotes and to return with recommendations; no formal vote was required to begin the solicitation process.
