Elections official reminds commissioners of financial disclosure deadline; sheriff announces microchip scanning station for public

Will Nance, Supervisor of Elections, reminded the Charlton County Board of Commissioners that personal financial statements are due July 1. Nance asked whether election forms had been prepared; Commissioner Jesse Crews asked Teresa Guinn of the Board of Elections whether the forms were ready.
Sheriff Phillips informed the board that the nonprofit Heart 2 Heart will place a microchip scanning station in front of the sheriff's office. Sheriff Phillips said Heart 2 Heart will pay for the scanning station, the sign and the scanner; the station is battery operated and will be free for public use. The group will need a post from the county road department, and Sheriff Phillips said there would be no cost to the county beyond that. County Attorney John Adams told the board he supported allowing the scanning station on county property and that liability concerns had been considered.
Resident Forrest Allen thanked the board for approving removal of road ash from in front of his home.
No formal board action was taken on the election reminder or the scanning station during the public comment period; items were recorded as public comments in the meeting minutes.
