The Charlton County Board of Commissioners on June 5 unanimously adopted a resolution allowing the county to levy an ad valorem tax to provide funds for Charlton County School District general obligation bonds. Patrick Brooks, representing the Board of Education, was present for the discussion. Commissioners said the move is standard procedure; the minutes note the board adopted a similar resolution in 2017. The minutes state the bonds will be largely repaid by SPLOST funds but that the resolution permits an additional ad valorem tax should SPLOST fail to pass or produce insufficient revenue. Commissioner Drew Jones moved to adopt the resolution; Commissioner James Everett seconded the motion. The board approved the resolution unanimously. The minutes do not list a dollar amount for the bonds or a schedule of anticipated tax rates.
