The Charlton County Board of Commissioners on June 5 authorized County Administrator Glenn Hull to execute a negotiated modification to the county's agreement with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency and The GEO Group, pending no further changes to the version presented. County Administrator Glenn Hull introduced Amber Martin with The GEO Group and asked the board to authorize him to execute the agreement "pending no changes are made from the current agreement presented, when it is legally able to be executed." Commissioner Drew Jones moved to authorize Hull to execute the agreement; Commissioner James Everett seconded the motion and it carried unanimously. Chairwoman Alphya Benefield told the board the contract negotiations "were discussed in closed session, but no action was taken on them." County Attorney John Adams later clarified that the board's authorization allowed the administrator to sign the agreement as presented. The board did not record additional conditions or changes to the agreement at the meeting. The transcript notes the modification had been negotiated since February and that Amber Martin represented The GEO Group during the presentation.
