District staff provided a set of informational updates at the July 21 Canton ISD board meeting.
Dr. Angela Barton gave an overview of 2025–26 accountability ratings, according to the minutes. The district reported that signs made by Region 10 reflecting the district’s Eagle Vision will be delivered in a few weeks. Canton ISD noted an S&P bond sale scheduled at the J.P. Morgan facility in Dallas on July 23.
The district reported gas-line testing is under way at Canton High School (CHS) because of a possible leak; the test will be submitted to Atmos Gas. Officials also said CHS parking is being redirected so the Canton Eagle Band may use the football parking lot during construction, and that the CJH auxiliary gym entryway floor is being replaced with vinyl.
Federal funding for Title II, Title III and Title IV grant programs may be delayed: the U.S. Department of Education notified the Texas Education Agency of an administrative review affecting FY 2025 funding, and the minutes note a delay in the release of those funds.
The minutes list new state laws taking effect for the 2025–26 school year: Senate Bill 13 (library material), Senate Bill 401 (homeschool participation in public schools) and Senate Bill 12 (requiring districts to receive parental or guardian consent before providing health-related services). The minutes also note the Texas Legislature’s special sessions begin July 21.
Several operational dates were listed in the minutes, including substitute training and band camp starting July 29, staff return Aug. 1, and the first day of school Aug. 13, 2025.
