Canton Independent School District trustees voted Aug. 18 to adopt the 2025–26 budget and to set a tax rate that will fund the approved budget. The board approved the General Fund at $24,844,715, Food Service at $1,148,654 and Debt Service at $6,521,615 and adopted a maintenance and operations (M&O) rate of $0.6327 and an interest and sinking (I&S) rate of $0.431 for a combined rate of $1.0637 per $100 valuation. Dr. Leslea Evans, board member, moved to approve the budget; Julie Stern, board secretary, seconded the motion. The roll call showed six votes in favor and the motion carried 6–0; Catherine Irwin was absent. Earlier in the meeting the board approved the consent agenda, including July 21 minutes and monthly financial reports, on a 6–0 vote (motion by Josh Wilkerson, second by Matt Dunn). The board also approved a 2025–26 Budget Management Resolution and a resolution to accept donations that do not change the overall budget; both motions passed 6–0. The board convened an executive session under the Texas Open Meetings Act (Texas Government Code, Chapter 551) for personnel, student discipline and real property matters; no action was taken in open session as a result of the closed meeting.
