School board votes to return fourth grade to elementary schools at Greenfield Central

Board discussion referenced research saying fourth graders “perform best academically, behaviorally, and attendance-wise” when educated in elementary settings, and noted that facility studies show sufficient elementary capacity to accommodate the change.
Board members emphasized they will work with teachers to address logistical concerns that were raised, including classroom configuration and teaching partnerships. The superintendent said staff will follow up immediately to gather teacher location preferences and teaching partner requests and attempt to honor first choices where practicable.
The board’s action was framed as a program placement decision for Greenfield Central; no new budget appropriation or specific staffing assignments were adopted at the meeting. The district indicated that subsequent steps and details about classroom assignments and any operational adjustments will be developed and reported back to the board.
