District reports preliminary iRead gains for second and third graders; plans summer-school supports

District administrators reported preliminary results from the iRead assessments at the Feb. 10 board meeting, saying second-grade results are up about 12% from last year and third-grade scores are up roughly 4%.
District staff said second-grade students will receive a second testing opportunity this year; students who do not pass will be retested. Third graders who do not pass will be offered at least one additional testing opportunity and may have a second retest if they attend summer school, officials said. The district said it will begin planning summer-school programs now to provide targeted support.
A district presenter praised elementary teachers and principals for preparing students and noted the assessments created a “pretty stressful week” for some students. The board thanked staff and encouraged planning that would support students identified for intervention.
No formal action was taken; staff said they will return with program details once planning is finalized.
