The Fairfield Community Schools board on July 10 approved routine consent and action items that included minutes, claims, payroll, handbooks, an emergency action plan, and personnel matters.
The consent agenda — moved by Tyler Rensberger and seconded by Sarah Elledge — included the minutes of the June 12 meeting, claims totaling $1,191,507.57 and payroll claims totaling $656,872.45, two professional leave requests and a set of resignations and new employments. The consent motion passed unanimously.
Action items approved by unanimous vote included the 2025–2026 Fairfield Jr‑Sr High School Student Handbook (to be part of online registration and reviewed with students during the first week of school), the 2025–2026 Athlete Handbook (to be reviewed with coaches and at athlete/parent meetings), and the 2025–2026 Event Command Emergency Action Plan. The board also approved adding a 2002 minibus (obsolete activity bus) to an upcoming online auction run in coordination with Hahn auction facility.
The board approved a base pay increase for Skyler Garner of $3,280, bringing his salary to $84,000 per year effective July 11, 2025; Marilee Keim thanked Officer Garner for his work at the school. The board also approved a Northeast Indiana Insurance Trust stipend for the HR Coordinator Specialist in the amount of $269.23 per pay and approved the Fairbanks Participation Agreement, which the superintendent said will provide additional federal eligibility for special education students; Dr. Cannon said the agreement is not part of money currently being withheld.
Administrators also presented reports: Assistant Superintendent Monica Kegerreis said 54 elementary students attended summer school (grades 1–3) and the program included IREAD retakes with 71% of those tested showing growth; more than 100 high‑school students attended summer courses, earning 175 credits in total. Monica reported the Millersburg summer meal program served about 160 students per day. Chief Financial Officer Dr. Brandon Penrod reviewed the June month‑end financials and the projected 2026 budget timeline; staff said the budget hearing will be scheduled for the September meeting with adoption targeted for October.
