WFNJ/SNAP report: GA cases rise, TANF low, SNAP near eight-year high; Medicaid processing touches ~16,000 in county

Donna Groome, reporting to the HSAC on WFNJ/Welfare-to-Work and related caseloads, said graphs and monthly reports distributed with the meeting packet showed divergent trends across benefit programs. Groome reported that GA cases were at 304 in January 2025, the highest level in eight years; TANF participation declined in 2024 to near an eight-year low; and SNAP cases continued to increase to nearly an eight-year high, with "almost 9,000 people in CMC benefiting from SNAP." Groome also noted the WFNJ participation rate varies seasonally with the county's seasonal economy and system coding. She added that, while not part of the WFNJ program, about 16,000 people in Cape May County are touched by Medicaid processing conducted by the Division of Social Services. The HSAC accepted committee reports as presented; no policy changes were adopted in the April 2 meeting.
