DCP&P Cape May reports high March intakes and several child removals

Jen Hirsch, supervisor at the Division of Child Protection and Permanency (DCP&P) Cape May County local office, reported at the April 2 HSAC meeting that the office received 82 intakes in March 2025 (70 child-abuse/neglect investigations and 12 child-welfare assessments) and was handling 199 cases involving 405 children. Hirsch said 53 of those children were in resource-home placements and five children were removed in March; four adoptions have been finalized so far in 2025. "The number of intakes and the number of children removed were very high for the Cape May office for one month," Hirsch said. The presentation was a statistical update to HSAC members; no new county-level child-welfare action was recorded in the meeting minutes.
