Fairfield board approves $3.97M in claims, Chromebook replacement and multiple operational items

At its April 17 meeting the Fairfield Community School Corporation board unanimously approved consent items including claims totaling $3,974,704.53 and payroll claims of $1,752,727.16. The board also approved a package of operational measures and program items affecting classrooms, student activities and district administration. Chief Financial Officer Dr. Brandon Penrod presented the March month-end financial report. The board approved a resolution authorizing limited credit-card use and designating the corporation treasurer to manage issuance and sign applications; the resolution cites Indiana Code (I.C.) 20-26-3, Sections 1 through 6. A public hearing called for the 'First Preliminary Determination Hearing' was held from 5:27 p.m. to 5:47 p.m.; the record shows no objections and the hearing was closed. As part of routine replacement cycles, trustees approved purchase of 450 Chromebooks used by students in grades 2, 3 and 7 as part of the scheduled five-year device replacement plan. The board approved several field trips: an overnight trip for the Fairfield Jr.-Sr. High School E-sports Fortnite team to a state competition in Muncie, Indiana on April 26; an out-of-state music trip to New York City scheduled for April 9-12, 2026; and an out-of-state trip for 6th- and junior-high music students to Cedar Point on May 17, 2025. The board accepted donations including $5,000 to the Benton Elementary library from the Benton Parent Teacher Organization, $2,500 from Fairfield Music Boosters to offset a charter-bus cost for the high-school show choir, $2,077.50 from the Fairfield 12th Man Booster Club as partial reimbursement for football travel bags, and a $500 anonymous donation to the junior-high track team. Administratively, trustees approved the Social Worker and Speech/Language Pathologist evaluation rubrics, summer-school positions for 2025, Agriculture and Veterinary Technology textbooks, the 2024-2026 Title II grant, a Roth 403(b) retirement option, and an updated Substitute Transportation & Grounds Assistant job description. Multiple motions were made and passed unanimously; when motions and seconders were recorded the five board members present voted in favor. The meeting adjourned at 6:08 p.m.
