The Workforce Development Board told HSAC members June 4 that several locally supported training starts and a statewide revision to the in‑demand occupations list will affect local training grant eligibility.
Workforce Development Board member Anne Garrison said one customer was placed in an on‑the‑job training position and four adults received WIOA training grants and have started occupational training programs that lead to a license or industry credential. To date, staff have approved 18 individuals for training grants to attend Cape May Tech in September.
Garrison said the New Jersey Department of Labor will issue a revised in‑demand occupation list effective July 1, 2025. Under WIOA rules described by the board, an occupation must have projected growth of 4.8% or better and more than 2,000 statewide vacancies to be deemed "in‑demand." Garrison said 53 occupations are slated for removal and 75 for addition; locally, certified nursing assistant (CNA) is set to be removed and HVAC technician is set to be added.
Garrison encouraged residents to attend One‑Stop orientation sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 9:30 a.m. for information about training grants; no pre‑registration is required.
