County adopts new Open Spaces grant limits; agricultural trust fund balance reported at $45.2 million

Scott Mullen, director for the Cape May County Agricultural Development Board, reported at the Jan. 27, 2025 meeting that the county commissioners have adopted new 2025 Open Spaces Program Guidelines that change maximum grant awards. Under the guideline, the maximum grant award for most projects is $2.5 million; historic preservation projects are limited to $500,000. Mullen said a new program category for maritime preservation was added to the guidelines.
Mullen also reviewed the board’s financial statement, reporting a total trust fund balance of $45,207,593.56 after receipts and disbursements, with encumbrances totaling $15,135,913.72. He stated that the account is a shared fund with the Open Spaces Board.
The report was informational; no formal board action or vote on the guideline changes was recorded at the meeting. Board members did not request further action or make motions on the guideline text during the session.
