At the May 29 meeting of the Cape May County Bridge Commission, Project Manager Antonio Colón provided a status update on multiple capital improvement projects, outlining near-term schedules and outstanding tasks for several county bridges.\n\nColón said the Ocean City-Longport Bridge fishing pier project is awaiting finalized plans and scope from RVE; the commission plans to advertise the project in early summer with construction beginning in the fall, and any finalized cost estimate will be shared with commissioners before advertising.\n\nOn Corson's Inlet Bridge, Colón reported that the contractor remains on schedule, with a hard completion date of July 2 for clearing the site. All original contractual work is complete and the contractor is performing additional floor beam repairs identified recently. Toll collection at Corson's Inlet is now full time, and single-lane traffic has been reduced to flagging operations during work hours Monday through Friday.\n\nTownsend's Inlet Bridge repairs to span locks are still under study for follow-up off-season work. For Grassy Sound Bridge, Colón said 100% of documentation for a superstructure rehabilitation has been received and is under review; the commission is exploring grant-funding options for that work.\n\nFor Middle Thorofare Bridge and Ocean Drive (CR621), the commission held its fifth progress meeting May 15, 2025. An auxiliary drive system motor replacement has been completed and tested; shop drawings are being finalized to reflect the new auxiliary drive system. Colón also reported that scour-abatement contractual work at Grassy Sound and Middle Thorofare is complete and punch-list items are being addressed.\n\nThe commission is advancing a Fender Rehabilitation Program across Ocean City-Longport, Corson's Inlet, Townsend's Inlet and Grassy Sound; Triad has identified grant opportunities and commission staff will continue due diligence on sequencing and funding. Engineers from H&H are scheduled to be on-site June 2–4, 2025 to perform electrical and mechanical inspections at Corson's Inlet and Townsend's Inlet as part of local concept development for bridge replacements.\n\nCommission staff noted preliminary reports from the 2023–24 NBIS bridge inspection contract were reviewed by RVE and returned with minor comments; staff are preparing an RFP for the 2025–2026 NBIS inspection cycle.
