The El Campo City Council on Sept. 8 approved funding from the City Development Corporation (CDC) of $228,594.45 to pay for sanitary sewer infrastructure improvements described as the North Mechanic and Washington Street project. The CDC board unanimously approved covering 100% of the project cost; because the amount exceeds $25,000 the council's approval was required.
Staff said the project serves numerous businesses in the area including a daycare, dental office and retail establishments and that funding from the CDC will free bond funds for other projects on the capital-improvement plan. The staff presentation noted the project was previously approved on July 14 but the CDC funding will allow the city to reallocate bond funds to other items on the CIP list presented in June.
A motion to approve the CDC funding was made and seconded, and the council voted to approve the funding.
Council members thanked CDC representatives for the partnership. Staff clarified the project description is the engineer's terminology and that the project area affects the business corridor near North Mechanic and Washington Street.
