Brian Johnson, president of the Kennedale Chamber of Commerce, told the Kennedale Economic Development Corporation on Aug. 26 that the chamber has rewritten its bylaws, reduced its board from 13 to 12 members and shifted luncheons from monthly to quarterly to increase business participation. "Monthly just wasn't cutting it," Johnson said, describing lower attendance and a decision to make luncheons more business-focused with panels and roundtables. He said the chamber has moved to a quarterly schedule and will prioritize interactive formats and guest speakers. Johnson said he was elected chamber president in June and named the chamber's officers: "Bridal Griffith is our vice president, Mike Walker is our secretary, and Chad Gee is our treasurer." He said the chamber is recruiting new members, noting many current members are on one-year terms. Johnson said the chamber pays roughly 15% of a city-employed staff member's salary to cover that person's time working for the chamber and emphasized the chamber will pay for any additional city services it uses. On membership costs, Johnson said the chamber still lists a $50 membership level, a $2.50 level, and premier sponsor packages at about $2,000, and confirmed those fees are annual. He invited EDC members to the chamber luncheon scheduled for Sept. 9 and said the chamber will return to report quarterly. "Our goal in my mind is that the chamber should be supporting the EDC and its goals, and supporting the city and its goals," Johnson said, praising recent local redevelopment the EDC has supported.
