Board reviews agreement to host Community Health Net clinic at Central High

The School City of East Chicago board reviewed a memorandum of understanding to renew a school-based clinic partnership with Community Health Net (CHN) for the 2025–26 school year. Administrators said the clinic will be housed in space adjacent to the nurse’s office at Central High School and will operate once a week. "So now the clinic will be located inside with the nurse's office, and it will be we will be partnering with Community Health Net, and they'll come once a week," the presenter said.

Administrators described services and billing practices: CHN provides free athletic physicals and can bill Medicaid or private insurance for services that go beyond routine offerings, though staff said CHN often provides some services without billing. The presenter said the agreement covers only Central High School; the district provides space at no cost and CHN manages clinical services and any third-party billing.

Trustees asked whether the service would be open to the entire district; staff clarified it would be for Central High only. Trustees also asked about cost-sharing; staff said there is no cost to the district beyond providing space and that CHN can refer students to its clinics if additional care is needed.
