Trustees discussed multiple Central High School facility items and asked staff for supporting bids, warranties and vendor details at the Sept. 4 work session.
Claims discussed included a repair to the football scoreboard (replacement of missing panels), spending on new science classroom chairs, a renewals payment for district digital textbook licenses (Savvas), and several invoices tied to Central High operations (trailer rentals, wellness checks and special education summer services).
On the pool, staff presented a collective quote from Spire Aquatics for immediate work necessary to open the swim season (strip/prep and replaster) and described a longer-term renovation plan. Staff said they would initially seek funding for the work required to run the season and return to the board with warranty and contract documents for any additional phases. Trustees noted that one of the pool roof replacements two years earlier cost about $184,000 and that clogged drains and poor maintenance had contributed to prior roof problems; staff said the present vendor had cleaned drains and provided maintenance training for district personnel.
Trustees also reviewed a separate roofing claim for Central High School with bids received; one vendor reportedly offered a 20-year warranty. Trustees requested copies of the competing bids and the vendor address, and asked whether the vendor is a union contractor. Staff said they would follow up with the contractor for the warranty text, company address, union status and references; the board requested the bids be made available.
On the scoreboard claim, staff explained a full replacement was cost-prohibitive and that replacing specific panels to restore correct digit displays was more cost effective. The board confirmed the scoreboard is now fixed.
Staff said invoices and backup documentation were distributed to trustees but noted some packets arrived late; trustees asked that future vendor invoices and bid documents be circulated earlier and in full so board members may review prior to discussion.
