At the Aug. 25 work session trustees discussed facilities work at Central High School, including a bid for a new handicap elevator and ongoing HVAC repairs and planning. The elevator project is intended to provide accessible vertical access to the gym area; administrators said the existing building configuration required firefighters or staff to move individuals by stairs. "This is the actual new elevator that's going into the gym area," a staff presenter said when the board reviewed item 6.07.
Board members also discussed a series of HVAC service and engineering engagements. Administrators said Hayes Mechanical performed work at Central and that Precision is overseeing control systems; Arctic Engineering conducted an evaluation and another engineering firm has prepared drawings and will go out for bid to select the contractor for a larger HVAC project. Trustees asked who would own and host the engineering drawings; staff said the drawings will be provided to the district (on a USB drive) and offered to have IT place them on a shared server for long-term access. "Yes, we do" own the drawings, staff confirmed when asked.
Administrators confirmed the district hired an HVAC technician on Aug. 12 and said routine maintenance and seasonal repairs (instruments, uniforms and vendor invoices referenced elsewhere in the packet) are ongoing. Trustees pressed for clarity on contractors and contract lengths; administrators said Centus contracts had been reduced and that the district retained some limited accounts through March for specific services. On the elevator, the board received the bid background and asked follow-up questions but did not take a final vote at the work session. Ending: Staff said they would provide drawings on the district server and return with contract and bid recommendations at a subsequent meeting for formal action.
