School City of East Chicago technology staff on June 17 recommended NetGo as the district’s new phone-service provider, telling trustees the vendor offered monthly cost savings and a handset-lease model intended to improve durability and allow scheduled replacements.
Director of technology Nelson Ontiveros said the district evaluated four vendors and narrowed the list to two before recommending NetGo. He said the recommended model leases handsets (not district ownership) and includes replacement/upgrades at the end of lease terms, with the vendor able to reduce monthly costs during summer months when school buildings are less used.
Trustees asked whether the phones would be owned or leased and whether the district would receive upgrades at lease end; Ontiveros confirmed they would be leased and that upgrades are part of the lease arrangement. Trustees also asked what operating fund would pay for the service; Ontiveros deferred that question to the finance director (Ms. Simmons), noting she would identify the appropriate fund for monthly charges.
Ending: Staff recommended board approval of NetGo pending finalization of contract and confirmation of funding source by the finance office.
