The South Carroll County Special School District Board of Education approved purchasing 175 Yondr phone pouches at a cost of $6,113.50 at its June 30 meeting in Huntingdon, Tenn., after initially tabling the item earlier in the same session.
Board members discussed how the sealable pouches would be used: students would keep an opaque pouch during the school day and open it at the end of the day. The district said medical pouches would be available for students who need them and that pouches could be opened as needed for middle‑college students or other exceptions. Board discussion noted the purchase would likely come from the general fund.
The item was first tabled on a motion by Corey Bartholomew, seconded by Tom Miller. Later in the meeting the purchase motion was made by Donna McDaniel‑Cox and seconded by Colton Moore; the motion passed. Tom Miller recorded a dissent on the final motion.
Separately, the board tabled further work on the student handbook’s cell‑phone policy until the next meeting, signaling that board members want additional input on phone‑use and dress guidelines before finalizing handbook language.
District staff did not provide a vendor contract during the public meeting; the board approved the purchase amount and general use parameters discussed at the session.
