Director reports March discipline incidents, teacher absences and early ACT results

In the district director’s April report Dr. Lisa Norris provided monthly operational statistics. The March discipline summary listed 2 incidents of physical aggression, 1 cell-phone violation, 2 insubordination incidents, 2 harassment/bullying incidents, 4 classroom disruptions, 1 theft, 1 instance of inappropriate language, 3 out-of-area incidents and 2 morning tardies; those infractions resulted in 18 detentions and three in-school suspensions for missed detentions. The district recorded 23 teacher absence days for March, which the director said were covered by substitutes or internal coverage. State-mandated standardized testing is underway through April and May (including TNReady and end-of-course exams), with make-up sessions planned for absent students. Dr. Norris reported that seven juniors scored 21 or higher on the ACT on their first test administration and the district will continue ACT preparation for students who will retake the exam. An updated cafeteria report with March financials, participation rates and nutrition compliance was attached to the director’s report; Dr. Norris said the cafeteria is running smoothly but did not read the attached financial figures during the meeting.
