District previews virtual-school website, plans 25 Chromebooks for in-area students

District staff showed the board a preview of the district’s virtual-school website on May 15 and outlined plans to build a second site for the adult-learning portion of the online program. Mr. Scott Carpus presented the demonstration and said recruitment is already under way.
Mary Katherine Stigall, who walked the board through the student-enrollment process, and Carpus said the district will make up to 25 Chromebooks available to students who enroll and live within a 60-mile radius of the district. Carpus told the board he has begun recruiting and will bring the Chromebooks for distribution to eligible students.
The district also noted that Middle College produced a one-minute promotional video to support recruitment. Board members did not take formal action on the virtual-school sites during the meeting; the presentation was informational and staff will continue development work.
