DCPS honors more than 900 English learners who reached state proficiency on ACCESS test

The Daviess County Board of Education recognized students who reached Kentucky’s English-language proficiency standard on the ACCESS for ELLs assessment, according to the instructional report presented at the meeting.
Jana Beth Francis delivered the instructional report on English Language Proficiency. The district’s packet states 921 students took the ACCESS test in January and February 2025. The presentation listed that a majority of the district’s English learners are elementary age and supplied a domain breakdown the district reported: Listening 15 percent, Speaking 15 percent, Reading 35 percent and Writing 35 percent. The packet also showed counts for prior years listed as 889 students in SY2024 and 789 in SY2023 (context in presentation notes).
Students honored at the meeting included pupils from many schools across the district who enrolled in DCPS from other countries; the district noted their work to reach proficiency. The board called students to the front of the room during the recognition segment and listed honored students by school in the meeting materials.
Why it matters: ACCESS results are used to measure ELs’ social and academic proficiency in English across four domains and to monitor language-service needs.
No formal action was required or taken on the recognition; the honors were presented as part of the Superintendent’s and instructional reports.
