Board approves consent agenda including leaves, personnel actions and personal leave policy change

The Daviess County Board of Education approved the consent agenda on May 15, which included a detailed list of employee leaves of absence, personnel actions and policy revisions. The consent motion passed 5-0. The leave list in the consent materials includes multiple FMLA, intermittent FMLA, extended disability leaves and leave-without-pay entries for employees across schools and departments; specific effective dates and positions were provided in the attachment. The agenda packet stated board policy requires written requests for leaves of absence and that some approved leaves will be unpaid. The personnel report attached to the meeting packet listed new hires, transfers, rehires, resignations and retirements across the district with effective dates. The packet included dozens of individual personnel actions — including new hires for classroom teachers, transfers to administrative roles and several end-of-year non-renewals and retirements — all approved as part of the consent agenda. The board also approved revisions to Policy #03.1231 (Personal Leave Certified) and Policy #03.2231 (Personal Leave Classified) to increase full-time certified and classified employees’ personal leave from two to three days per year; Order #144 passed 5-0 on a motion by Mr. Trey Pippin and a second by Mrs. Tammy Rice. Separately, the board approved a notice process for shortened school day/week for students with disabilities consistent with Kentucky Department of Education guidance; the packet states KDE allows full funding for students attending part time due to disability when a notice including the student’s IEP, Conference Summary and physician’s statement is submitted. Order #146 approving the shortened day/week notice passed 5-0. Dr. Caleb York was listed as the presenter for the leave item in the packet. No public comment was received on these personnel items at the meeting.
