Sheriff Willie Skeens reported to the Garrard County Fiscal Court that officers have seized "more than 25 pounds of marijuana and over 15 pounds of marijuana cartridges and other electronic supplies," along with "several ounces of cocaine, several hundred tablets of ecstasy, several hundred tablets of LSD," and that the agency is "nearing over $100,000 in drug proceeds." He also said a vest grant has been fulfilled and that work on a firing range — completed with donated materials and equipment from Major Excavation and Sammy Marsee's concrete company — was finished last week.
Coroner Shane Young told the court that, because of law-enforcement efforts and border enforcement, "overdose deaths have gone down substantially" and that fentanyl "has not been a cause of death in any of the cases" he reviewed.
Skeens presented the 2024 tax settlement, which the court recorded as having balances ranging between -$0.39 and $0.19. Magistrate Day moved to allow Judge/Executive Chris Elleman to sign the settlement; Magistrate Davis seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.
Why it matters: Drug seizures and the disposition of seized funds are core law-enforcement activities that can affect prosecutions and asset forfeiture processes. The tax-settlement signature is a ministerial action required to close annual collections reporting.
