County departments report staffing, equipment and program updates; court accepts updates

Multiple county departments provided routine operational updates at the Garrard County Fiscal Court meeting on July 28 and the court accepted those updates. Animal Control’s Brittany Fain said the shelter remained full with about 31 cats/kittens and 47 dogs/puppies and that the air conditioning is working; Road Superintendent Kenny Creech reported two mowing crews operating, a new hire to run the second mower, repairs on Locust Lane and Kemper Lane, upcoming work by Crawford Asphalt on Mt. Hebron Road, and marking county roads for possible blacktopping; EMA/CSEPP Coordinator Wanda Shelton said the county qualified for public assistance, closeout remains set for November 2025, warhead destruction is between 85%–92%, individual assistance ended July 25, the Fisher Ford siren should be working, and a new EOC garage door will be installed within two weeks; County Clerk Kevin Montgomery reported side-by-sides could be titled beginning June 27 and seven had been licensed, the 2024 tax sale is set for Aug. 6 with 135 delinquent properties available, and the clerk’s office experienced internet and A/C issues; Sheriff Willie Skeens said two new Tahoes are patrolling, work continues on a firing range, donated dirt was provided by Sammy Marsee’s company, and deputies executed a dozen or more search warrants with successes in drug cases; EMS Director Rebecca Sizemore thanked the court for a new stretcher, said EMS is running an FTO program with five staff, has three full-time medics with additional staff in training, is preparing a flag ceremony at a new building, and is improving documentation and starting another EMT class. A motion to accept the department updates was made by Magistrate Bobby Preston, seconded by Magistrate Wayne Day, and passed with all magistrates voting in favor.
