Mobile Heart and Lung Study to Offer Free CT Scans, Echocardiograms at Millenium Park

Representatives of the RURAL (Risk Underlying Rural Areas Longitudinal) Heart and Lung Study presented plans to Garrard County Fiscal Court on Aug. 11 to offer free mobile cardiovascular and pulmonary exams in Garrard and Boyle counties. Babette Overman of the study’s Community Advisory Board, Stephanie Boone, associate professor at the University of Louisville School of Public Health & Information Sciences, and research coordinator Stephie Abraham said the project will set up a mobile exam unit at Millenium Park that includes a CT scanner and echocardiogram at no cost to participants. The study aims to enroll 855 participants from Boyle and Garrard counties. Eligibility criteria presented at the meeting require participants be ages 25–64, residents of Perry, Breathitt, Boyle, or Garrard counties, and not on active military duty; participation is voluntary and study information will remain private.
