Garrard County Fiscal Court on Aug. 11 unanimously approved a resolution authorizing Judge/Executive Chris Elleman to apply for $850,000 in U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds to build a new Garrard County Community Food Bank structure. Montie Major and Michael Murphy of the Bluegrass Area Development District presented the proposal to the court. The resolution, as read at the meeting, states the court “agrees and resolves to apply for HUD Community Development Block Grant funds in the amount of $850,000 for use in a project entitled ‘Garrard County Community Food Bank’ ” and authorizes Elleman to sign required documents to pursue federal funding. Magistrate Chris Davis moved approval; Magistrate Glendan Barker seconded. The motion passed with all magistrates voting in favor. The resolution does not commit county matching funds in the text presented at the meeting and includes authority only for Elleman to execute documents necessary to seek federal support. The court took no additional direction on timeline or site selection during the meeting.
