Board approves moving forward with virtual-classroom vendors, seeks updated RFPs

Mr. Eddie Keel updated the board on the online RFP review, reporting two recommended vendors for virtual classrooms — continuing with Fullmind and considering other options that utilize Pearson. Dr. Mike Brown moved to proceed with these contracts; Chairman Warner Speakman seconded the motion and it carried.
Keel said the RFPs had been bid out three to four years earlier and requested permission to post updated versions on the district website and solicit new bids. He told the board that Dr. Tameka D. Lewis will appoint a committee to review applications and provide a recommendation. Keel also said funding for the contracts will come primarily from 142 Federal Funds; specific cost details were not provided at the meeting.
The board also approved changing RFP dates to move them up by one week to account for the rescheduled board meeting; Dr. Brown moved to change the dates, Speakman seconded and the motion carried. No contract dollars or award decisions were finalized at the May 8 meeting; staff were authorized to gather updated bids and return recommendations for board consideration.
The board asked for cost details and a committee review; those items will return to the board as staff gather and evaluate updated proposals.
