Interim Superintendent Dr. Tameka D. Lewis told the Fayette County Board of Education on May 8 that the one-time Teacher Bonus the board approved by resolution in March has been passed by the Tennessee General Assembly and will be appropriated for fiscal year 2026.
Dr. Lewis said funds are to be distributed after July 1 and that the Tennessee Department of Education will pull data on June 15 to determine eligible teachers. She described the eligibility criteria the department will use: teachers must be licensed, staffed at a school site and provide direct instruction for the majority of the school day across 180 days.
Dr. Lewis presented this as an informational update; the board did not take additional formal action on the bonus at the May 8 meeting. The board noted that funds depend on state appropriation and state data validation, and district payroll offices will await official guidance from the Tennessee Department of Education before finalizing disbursements.
The board approved teacher tenure and other personnel items at the same meeting, but the teacher bonus distribution is separate and contingent on the state appropriation and the department’s data pull in mid-June.
