An Alcoa High School representative identified as Dr. Deal reported at the Aug. 19 Alcoa City Schools Board meeting that Alcoa High School enrollment is currently 709 students and outlined campus events and recognitions.
Dr. Deal told the board that fall sports teams have begun regular seasons, AHS will hold an open house on Aug. 21 and the school planned a staff tailgate-style cookout on Aug. 22. The Alcoa vs. Maryville football game was scheduled for Friday at 7 p.m. at Alcoa High School.
Dr. Deal also reported recognitions: Josiah Tucker was recognized at a recent City Council meeting for finishing second at the state meet in hurdles, the state champion fishing team was recognized at the council meeting, and Patty Thomas, director of CTE and federal programs, was named AFA Teacher of the Year. Dr. Deal introduced an art student, Jade Heubert, who presented summer work and thanked AHS for art-department opportunities. Dr. Deal additionally recognized three AHS students who earned private pilot licenses during the 2024–25 school year.
Why it matters: Enrollment and program updates provide a snapshot of school activity as the district begins the academic year; student recognitions highlight achievements that the school and board publicly acknowledged.
The meeting record does not provide further detail about the City Council recognitions, award selection processes or the identities of the three students who earned pilot licenses.
