The Bristol Tennessee Board of Education voted Aug. 18 to approve a package of district policies on second reading after a recommendation from Director of Schools Dr. Annette Tudor. The motion, made by Jim Butcher and seconded by Jennifer Henson, carried with votes from Debbie Darnell, Jim Butcher, Eric Cuddy, Charlie Taylor and Jennifer Henson.
The approved policies cover a range of district operations, including student board membership (1.1021); school district records (1.407); charter school applications, oversight, renewal and revocation (1.901, 1.903, 1.905, 1.906); surplus property sales (2.403); emergency preparedness and threat assessment teams (3.202, 3.204); instructional goals and virtual education (4.100, 4.212); athletics, library materials and internet use (4.301, 4.402, 4.406); student progress reporting and wellness (4.601, 6.411); multiple personnel policies including compensation, retirees and family leave (5.100, 5.110/5110, 5.119, 5.305); attendance and related provisions (6.200, 6.202, 6.204); student search/questioning and anti-harassment policies (6.303, 6.304); device usage (6.312); and student records (6.600).
Board members did not request additional substantive amendments at the meeting; the board’s vote approved the policies as presented in the second-reading packet. The policy documents and related attachments were included in the meeting materials.
The approvals complete the second-reading step for these policies; the transcript does not record further implementation details or amended language beyond the attachments provided to the board.
