The Somerset County Board of County Commissioners proclaimed September 2025 as Healthy Aging Month and heard a summary of county services intended to support older adults’ health and independence.
The proclamation cited the National Healthy Aging Campaign and urged local events and programs that promote physical, social, mental and financial well-being for older adults. County aging-services staff described the office’s mission to promote health, independence, dignity and choice for older residents and said programs are intended to help people remain in their homes for as long as possible.
Aging-services staff said county senior centers offer activities such as yoga and “healthy bones” classes and that a friendly visitor program connects volunteers with homebound older residents for social visits. Staff also described in‑home education and information for caregivers and said the office will celebrate county residents who reach age 100 or older with a centenarian recognition at the end of the month.
One staff member encouraged nominations of residents turning 100 or older and described a holistic approach that includes physical, mental, emotional and financial health, as well as home-safety checks. The proclamation text states it was signed by the five county commissioners.
The meeting transcript included informal comments by commissioners about grandparents and the centenarian celebration. No budget allocations or new programs were proposed in the meeting record; staff presented existing programs and the centenarian nomination process.
