The Somerset County Board of County Commissioners proclaimed September 2025 as Healthy Aging Month and heard from a representative of the county’s aging services about local programs and a planned centenarian celebration.

The proclamation notes Healthy Aging Month as a national observation that encourages healthy, active lifestyles for older adults and recognizes programs that support physical, social, mental and financial well-being.

A representative from the county’s aging services office described local offerings including senior centers with classes such as yoga and healthy bones programs, a friendly visitor program that connects volunteers with homebound older adults, and in‑home education and assistance for caregivers. The representative said the office is emphasizing a holistic approach that includes physical, mental and financial health and safety in the home.

Commissioner Drake was cited during the discussion in relation to the centenarian celebration; county staff said they will seek nominations for residents who are 100 years old or older to include in the county’s end-of-month recognition. The proclamation is signed by the five county commissioners.
