The Harlem UD 122 school board approved a set of routine and capital items, including the 2025‑26 district calendar, policy updates, the release of redacted closed‑session minutes, a surplus‑property resolution, a parking‑lot improvement contract and the period’s bills and payroll.
Board members voted to adopt the district calendar for the 2025‑26 school year after staff said the calendar had been developed in consultation with the union as required by the collective bargaining agreement. Administrators told the board the calendar front‑loads professional development time to allow teachers additional preparation for an updated ELA curriculum.
The board approved a second reading of policy updates from Jan. 13, 2025, and voted to release redacted closed‑session minutes covering July 1, 2024, through Dec. 31, 2024.
On facilities work, the board approved a resolution to clear surplus property at Olson Park Elementary and awarded the bid for parking‑lot improvements at Olson Park Elementary and Harlem Middle School to Stenstrom Excavating & Blacktop for a base bid of $439,990 plus alternate 1 of $11,298, for a total contract cost of $451,288. Staff said alternate 1 would connect dry wells in the parking lot to the street to improve drainage; an alternate for a new basketball court at the middle school was included in the design estimate for information but was not recommended for award at this time.
The board approved payables for the period with total expenditures of $4,226,086.39. The district reported one payroll of $3,541,594.98 in the period. Fund breakdowns provided during the meeting showed the education fund paid $3,614,482.59; operations and maintenance paid $203,684.46; transportation paid $213,544.07; the IMRF/Social Security fund paid $123,616.12; and the capital projects fund paid $70,759.15.
The board also approved a personnel agenda that the superintendent presented: nine resignations, two transfers, two leaves of absence, six employments and one federation bank request were listed on the personnel consent agenda.
