District staff told the CCSD 59 Board of Education on Aug. 6 that Brentwood Elementary’s renovation is largely complete and the Early Learning Center (ELC) HVAC replacement has received occupancy clearance after a regional office of education walkthrough.
Superintendent Dr. Breznahan reported that the ELC received full occupancy from the regional office’s walk-through and the remaining system components were expected to arrive for final testing before staff and students return. “We received full occupancy through our regional office of education walk through today,” she said.
On Brentwood, staff reported that instructional spaces have been released and the district anticipates substantial completion soon. The board was told the project remains on schedule and within budget; staff described outstanding items including a Metropolitan Water Reclamation District (MWRD) inspection, fire-safety documentation and plumbing sign‑offs that must be finalized before full occupancy paperwork is issued.
Why this matters: Building projects affect opening-day readiness and classroom assignments; Brentwood’s renovated gym, art, music and kindergarten spaces are scheduled for staff set-up this weekend so teachers can prepare rooms before students arrive.
Board follow-up: Staff said custodial teams and project managers will support classroom set-up over the weekend and the district will plan a future ribbon-cutting and community open house to showcase the renovated spaces.
Ending: Brentwood instructional areas are in use under partial occupancy and the ELC’s HVAC work has cleared regional inspection; staff will return to the board with final completion and occupancy documents once inspections and paperwork are closed out.
