Superintendent Dr. Breznahan told the CCSD 59 Board of Education on Aug. 6 that the 2025–26 school year will be her final year leading the district and urged the board to conduct a thoughtful search for her successor.
“Serving as superintendent of this district has been an honor,” Dr. Breznahan said in a prepared statement read at the meeting. She said the district made progress on curriculum alignment, equity, and facility modernization during her tenure and pledged to support a smooth transition.
The board then voted to contract BWP Partners to lead the superintendent search. The motion to approve BWP Partners passed by roll call: the minutes record the vote as “Aye” from board members Zack, Eddie, Johnson, Kitzinger, Notini and Boeckler and an absent member noted in the roll call.
Why this matters: Superintendent transitions set leadership for district priorities including curriculum, finance and facilities. Dr. Breznahan cautioned that “leadership matters and transitions, if not carefully managed, can disrupt the momentum that takes years to build.”
Board next steps: The board approved the search firm and will work with BWP Partners to set a search timeline and community engagement plan. Dr. Breznahan said she will remain engaged through the transition year and help ensure continuity.
Ending: The board formalized the search‑firm contract at the Aug. 6 meeting and will publish the search timeline and opportunities for community input once arrangements with BWP Partners are finalized.
