Jefferson County commissioners approved three IT items aimed at updating the county network and appraisal workflow.

County IT staff proposed switching antivirus, managed detection and DNS protection from the Center for Internet Security to Sophos, citing faster incident detection and lower cost. IT staff said Sophos would cost about $30,303.05 for the first year (noting implementation costs would be lower than continuing with the current product). Commissioners approved the vendor change by motion and roll call; staff said the new contract would start Oct. 1 when the current service expires Sept. 30.

The board also approved purchasing two Dell servers from ServerMonkey for $19,503.52 to replace end‑of‑life hosts that run county databases. Staff said current servers are eight years old and out of warranty; the new machines will become primary hosts while the old servers would be retained for backup. Quotes from Dell and other resellers were reviewed; ServerMonkey offered the lowest price on equivalent hardware and warranty.

Finally, commissioners approved a no‑cost, 90‑day product evaluation license agreement with EagleView for county appraisers to beta test a new platform feature set. County staff said the agreement had been reviewed by the county attorney and included requested changes to contract wording.

All three items were described as budgeted: the Sophos and server purchases were within IT budget lines; the EagleView trial was no cost.
