Connor Brown, representing Ecyclers of Idaho, asked the Jefferson County Board of Commissioners to consider partnering with his R2v3-certified electronics recycling facility in Idaho Falls to add drop-off options and secure data-wiping for electronics disposal.
Brown said R2v3 certification covers proper handling of devices that store data and hazardous components such as lithium batteries, and emphasized data security: “A huge risk when people take their electronics to a landfill is that some things nowadays will have information on it that maybe they weren't aware,” he said. He offered free collection service for household electronic waste and suggested a permanent drop-off station at the County Line landfill or periodic collection events.
County staff response: County staff told Brown the county already has a contractor supplying drop-off boxes at both landfills at no cost, and the contractor collects and recycles the county’s e-waste upon request. Commissioners and staff asked Brown to email a company overview and technical details so they could compare certifications and services.
What happens next: Brown said he had already emailed an in-depth presentation and will follow up with Planning/Transfer Station staff. Staff asked him to send contact information and details about scope, capacity, and any fees; Brown said he was offering free drop-off for household e-waste.
